After hiding the horrifying video for two weeks, the CUNY Law School has finally made available a video of a commencement address in which vile lies against Israel were spoken.
A thunderous ovation greeted the comments of the speaker, a well-known antisemitic BDS supporter, who accused Israel of “indiscriminate” murder, encouraged “lynch mobs,” and praised resistance to “Zionism around the world.”
After receiving criticism for the ceremony, the institution, which has a long history of antisemitism, hid the footage.
This was the second year in a row that the commencement speaker at the law school made virulent anti-Israel statements a large part of their speech.
Fatima Mohammed, an anti-Israel activist, served as the keynote speaker at the commencement ceremony on May 12.
The student body chooses the speaker for commencement. Mohammad continuously attacked Israel by associating it with white supremacy, tyranny, colonialism, and violence through vile lies, propaganda, and talking points.
“This is the law school that passed and endorsed BDS on a student and faculty level, recognizing that absent a critical imperialism-settler colonialism lens, our work and the school’s mission statement are void of value as Israel continues to indiscriminately rain bullets and bombs on worshipers, murdering the old and the young, attacking funerals and graveyards, and encouraging lynch mobs,” she said.
“We are the student body and faculty that fought back when the investor-focused administration attempted to cross the BDS picket line, saying loud and clear that Palestine can no longer be the exception to our pursuit of justice and that our morality will not be purchased by investors,” she said.
Muhammad further said that CUNY “continues to train IDF soldiers” to conduct “violence globally,” accusing the educational institution of being “committed to its donors, not to its students.”
She frequently equated racism toward black Americans with Israel and claimed that Senator Chuck Schumer had “dignified” Jordan Neely’s murder.
She concluded by wishing that the joy we have in our New York City dining rooms and bedrooms might serve as inspiration for the struggle against capitalism, racism, imperialism, and Zionism worldwide.
Mohammed belongs to the Students for Justice in Palestine group at CUNY Law.
The wrongful “unceasing military occupation and colonization of Palestine by the Israeli state” was denounced in a resolution issued by the CUNY Law School last year as “both settler colonialism and structural racism, supported politically, financially, and militarily by the US.”
