Former City Councilman David Greenfield made Eliza Shapiro, the so-called NY Times “journalist” who has made it her life’s work to criticize yeshivas, seem bad on Twitter.
She admitted that Torah V’Daas is a yeshiva with significant secular studies and lauded its curriculum after making a false tweet against a well-known Mashgiach from that organization that was quickly refuted by Greenfield.
Shapiro tweeted in response to images of Rav Moshe Wolfson presenting Mayor Eric Adams with an award.
Shapiro appears as a journalist but attacks yeshivas viciously and writes biased stories.
In order to express his gratitude for the mayor’s steadfast support of yeshiva education, Rabbi Wolfson welcomed him to his house in the company of numerous Brooklyn officials.
A plaque bearing the signatures of more than 50 yeshiva leaders was given to him.
I avoid becoming involved in politics because I don’t have a political personality, Rav Wolfson stated.
I made an exception for a special individual tonight.
In his speech, Rav Wolfson expressed his community’s “deep expression of thanks for the support provided, particularly in assisting our community’s growth of our most valuable resource: our darling youngsters.
Any assistance in growing our children to be an honor to G-d, polished, useful, and productive individuals is much welcomed.
Our children are our future and G-d’s gift to us.
Adams stated at one point, “It’s unfortunate that those outside your community don’t understand that all you want to do is live in peace, educate your children, and be able to provide for your community.”
Since his time as Brooklyn Borough President, Adams has been a loyal friend of the Jewish community, therefore the honor was well-deserved.
“The Adams administration is currently looking into the quality of secular education in Hasidic yeshivas throughout Brooklyn,” Shapiro tweeted.
To be fair, Greenfield said, “Rabbi Wolfson, who is honoring the Mayor, is the senior dean of Yeshiva Torah Vodaas, a “ultra-orthodox” yeshiva whose students take the Regents and go on to some of the greatest institutions and graduate programs in the nation.
Shapiro tweeted, “Absolutely! “, recognizing his error.
The city is not looking into Torah Vodaas. a wonderful illustration of how a yeshiva may successfully integrate a rigorous religious curriculum with solid secular academics.
Shapiro was criticized by others on Twitter as well.
Community leader Yosef Hershkop of Crown Heights wrote, “Torah Vodaas leadership understands that the attacks encouraged by Eliza and the rest of the gang are an attack on all yeshivas; they didn’t take lightly the decision to embrace the struggle.”
Askan Chaskel Bennett tweeted, “More impartiality from a ‘journalist’ called out for her lack of impartiality. (And of course blocks the non-sycophants from comments.)”
Someone who calls himself ‘Yakovolf’ tweeted, “Ye Shapiro is furious that Orthodox Jews are represented by their elected government.”
A Twitter user known as “Am Yisroel Chai” replied: “This loathsome antisemite, also known as the “Jewish” Kane, wants you to know that ((they)) control your politicians. Of course, she only opens her comment to the sycophants.”
