DeSantis Takes the Lead Over Trump in 2024 Matchup

In a post-midterm poll of GOP preferences for the 2024 Republican nomination, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is currently in front of former President Donald Trump by a whopping seven percentage points.

According to a YouGov poll, 42% of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents want DeSantis to be their presidential contender in 2024, compared to 35% who want Trump to be the nominee.

This is a sharp decline in support for the outgoing president.

Days before the midterm elections, a similar poll indicated that Trump was leading DeSantis by 22 points on the same issue, making the post-midterm poll results in an astounding 29 points in the opposite direction.

Republicans have been denouncing Trump over the midterm election results, but DeSantis easily won reelection, leading many to believe that he, not Trump, is the party’s future.

Only time will tell if DeSantis’ lead among Republicans will hold, but intriguingly, virtually no one in the GOP nodded in agreement when Trump started criticizing DeSantis last week.

This may indicate that Republicans are much less likely to support Trump’s attacks on the well-liked Florida governor.
