The dream of Dominos to succeed in the world’s pizza capital has ended in a nightmare.
Just seven years after opening there, Dominos has decided to close all its stores in Italy.
According to reports, the Michigan-founded pizza chain 1965 could not get enough business from Italians, who preferred their country’s traditional options.
The EPizza SpA company that ran Domino’s in the European country also added in a bankruptcy court filing in April that the “unprecedented competition” from delivery apps during the COVID-19 pandemic created challenges for the chain.
There was a “significantly increased level of competition in the food delivery market with both organized chains and “mom and pop” restaurants delivering food to survive,” Domino’s said.
Dominos has two dozen stores in Italy.
