In Dubai, close to the Burj Khalifa, the highest structure in the world, a fire started early on Monday morning at a 35-story high-rise building.
The blaze at the apartment complex had been put out by the time an Associated Press reporter arrived, but it wasn’t immediately apparent if there had been any injuries.
The structure, a part of the 8 Boulevard Walk collection of buildings by Emaar, the emirate’s state-backed developer, was covered in black char marks from the fire.
The Dubai police or civil defense did not immediately acknowledge the fire.
Emaar and the Dubai Media Office of the city-state failed to reply directly to requests for comment.
Recent fires in significant buildings in Dubai’s skyscraper-filled city have raised concerns about the safety of the cladding and other building materials used there.
One of Dubai’s most opulent hotels and condominiums, the Address Downtown, which is close to the Burj Khalifa, was destroyed by fire on New Year’s Eve in 2015.
