The terrorist from Egypt who killed three Israeli troops on Saturday was named as Mohamed Salah Ibrahim on Monday.

Ibrahim, 22, was reportedly inducted into the Egyptian military in June and assigned as a police officer to the Israeli-Egyptian border.

According to Israeli media accounts, he had regularly complained about his military service and had lately been gone for 18 days without leave.

Sgt. Lia Ben-Nun, 19, and Staff Sgt. Uri Iluz, 20, were killed by Ibrahim’s gunfire while guarding an observation position close to the border overnight on Friday.

Staff Sgt. Ohad Dahan, 20, was slain in Israeli territory during the ensuing manhunt during a gunfight with the terrorist, who was also fatally shot.

A fourth Israeli soldier suffered only minor injuries.

On Sunday afternoon, the three deceased were all laid to rest. Maj. Gen. Nimrod Aloni was chosen on Sunday by Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi, chief of staff of the Israel Defense Forces, to oversee the inquiry into the “systemic failures” that resulted in the deaths of the soldiers.

However, the Egyptian policeman was found to be carrying a dagger, a Koran, and six rifle magazines, according to an Army Radio story from Sunday.

The IDF believes that Ibrahim’s possession of the Koran indicates that he was inspired by Islamic religious radicalism, according to the report.

On Saturday night, Yoav Galant, the Israeli defense minister, and Maj. Gen. Mohamed Ahmed Zaki, the Egyptian defense minister, spoke and decided to work together to investigate the incident.

Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister, stated on Saturday that a thorough investigation would be conducted into the fatal incident.

The fatal occurrence on Shabbat at the Egyptian border is grave and extraordinary, and it will be thoroughly probed.

Netanyahu stated, “I want to applaud our forces for trying to make contact and getting rid of the terrorist.

“I share the pain of the families of [those slain] with the entire people of Israel, and I wish the injured a speedy recovery. Our thoughts go out to the families during this difficult time,” he continued.

Ibrahim crossed the border using an emergency gate that IDF soldiers utilized in collaboration with Cairo, according to an initial probe.

After a previous bust, Egypt claimed that he had crossed the border to pursue cocaine traffickers.
