Before a rumored “cage match” with Mark Zuckerberg, Elon Musk thinks he might need surgery. It appears that the two tech billionaires decided to meet in person in late June.

Although it’s unclear if a fight will actually take place, Musk and Zuckerberg have continued to stir up interest in the potential match by taking online shots at one another. Musk most recently stated on Sunday that the fight would be live-streamed on his social media site X, formerly known as Twitter.

Musk added that a veteran’s organization would get the fight’s revenues. Zuckerberg commented on his Threads social media page: “Shouldn’t we utilize a more dependable platform that can genuinely raise money for charity? The CEO of Facebook’s parent company Meta said he wasn’t “holding his breath” for a fight in a follow-up article.

“Today, I’m ready. Despite being trained in mixed martial arts and having previously written about winning his first jiu jitsu tournament, Zuckerberg said, “I suggested Aug. 26 when he first challenged, but he hasn’t confirmed.” No matter what happens, I will keep competing with other athletes because I adore this sport.

Musk stated earlier on Sunday that he was weightlifting to prepare for the fight. Later, when asked about the timing of the fight, he said the time was “still in flux” because of an MRI appointment and the possibility of surgery.

Musk said on Sunday night, “I’m getting an MRI of my neck and upper back tomorrow. It might be necessary to get surgery before the fight. I’ll find out this week.

The rumors of a physical confrontation first surfaced in June after Musk, the owner of X, replied to a tweet about Meta getting ready to launch Threads, a new Twitter competitor.

A Twitter user then humorously forewarned Musk of Zuckerberg’s jiu jitsu training after Musk made fun of the globe becoming “exclusively under Zuck’s thumb with no other options.” Musk wrote, “I’m up for a cage match if he is, lol.” Musk suggested the Vegas Octagon after Zuckerberg appeared to accept the idea.

It remains to be seen if Musk and Zuckerberg make it to the Las Vegas ring, especially given that Musk frequently tweets about action but doesn’t actually take it. Even if their agreement to a cage match was just a joke, the banter got people’s attention.

In response, a never-ending stream of “choose your fighter” memes and posts appeared.
