Israeli hostages have been taken hostage by Palestinian terrorists, and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has begun talks with Hamas to secure their release, an official source told AFP on Wednesday.
The insider confirmed a claim from the private TV channel Haberturk by saying, “They are negotiating to secure the release of the hostages.” During Hamas’s unexpected onslaught on Israel, dozens of civilians have been held captive.
The Turkish president has been pushing up negotiations with his Middle Eastern counterparts and has volunteered to mediate in order to bring about peace. He spoke with Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman late on Wednesday, according to the state news agency Anadolu.
Erdogan was quoted as adding that Turkey was prepared to use all of its resources, including mediation and “fair arbitration,” to put an end to the dispute as soon as possible.
