New York City mayor Eric Adams has called on the police to put an end to gun trafficking after a baby is now in critical condition after getting hit with a stray bullet to her head on Wednesday night at a Bronx street.

According to reports, the 11-month old baby was two days shy of her first birthday when she was hit by a stray bullet while sitting in the backseat of a car parked on Valentine Ave. near E. 198th St. in Bedford Park with her mother about 6:45 p.m.

The NYPD said the baby girl was hit to her head accidentally after a gunman started shooting nearby.

The baby suffered a wound to her left cheek and is currently undergoing medical treatment at New York-Presbyterian Hospital Columbia.

NYPD Deputy Chief Timothy McCormack, the commanding officer of Detective Borough Bronx is saddened by the incident and called on his personnel to put a stop to this kind of violence.

“This is completely unacceptable in our city,” McCormack said.

“[The baby’s] birthday is going to be in a few days. … This is unacceptable, and it needs to stop,” McCormack added.

Adams who also visited the crime called on police officers to end gun trafficking and keep the Big Apple safe for children.

“We have to be honest about what’s happening in the Bronx,” Adams said.

“This is not the city our children should grow up in,” Adams added.
