Newly-elected New York City mayor Eric Adams will have his hands full once he formally assumes office on January 1, 2022.

According to reports, Adams will face a heap of problems left behind by Mayor Bill de Blasio, including a crime surge, union resistance over the COVID-19 mandate, and a $5 billion budget deficit, to name a few.

Based on the latest NYPD data, there have been 1,324 shootings across the five boroughs so far this year, which is not only up from the 1,299 reported over the same 10-month period last year, it’s still more than double the rate seen in New York City pre-pandemic.

The data also shows that the city’s murder rate is set to exceed 400 for the second year in a row for the first time since 2010 and 2011.

As a former NYPD member, Adams has vowed to resolve these crimes in his term of office.

With regards to the COVID mandate, Adams has no specific stance on the matter but he told the media that he wants all NYPD personnel to get vaccinated.

On the budget deficit, Adams said he will do his best to properly use the city’s budget.

Adams also wants to have closer ties with the business sector under his term.
