Thousands of people were shopping on Hoshanah Rabba when gunfire erupted on Flatbush’s popular Avenue M. Around 12:10 PM on Friday, one individual was shot in the leg near Avenue M and East 16 Street.
The victim was treated by Flatbush Hatzolah and FDNY before being taken by EMS to the hospital in stable condition.
Inspector Bruce Ceparano, the commanding officer of the NYPD’s 70 Precinct, tells YWN that this event, which started in a different location and ended with the shooting on Avenue M, had nothing to do with any locals.
The police have confirmed that this incident was gang-related. A suspect was apprehended by an NYPD Community Affairs Officer of the 70 Precinct shortly after, and a weapon has been found thanks to extraordinarily quick police action.
According to Ceparano, the NYPD will continue to strengthen its presence for the remaining Yom Tov days.
