Ford recalls 870K F-150 pickups in the US after parking brakes unexpectedly activated

Ford is recalling more than 870,000 more recent F-150 pickup trucks in the U.S. due to the potential for unexpected activation of the electric parking brakes.

Certain trucks with single exhaust systems from the 2021 through 2023 model years are included in the recall.

The best-selling cars in the United States are Ford’s F-Series pickup trucks.

A rear wiring bundle may come into contact with the rear axle casing, according to the manufacturer, according to documents made public by federal safety officials on Friday.

This could chafe the wire and result in a short circuit, which would activate the parking brake without the driver’s intervention and raise the likelihood of an accident.

A dashboard warning message and a parking brake warning light may be visible to drivers.

According to Ford, in North America, there have been 918 warranty claims and three wire chafing field reports.

Nineteen of these occurred while the trucks were being driven, and 299 of these indicated unexpected parking brake activation.

According to the company, it is not aware of any collisions or injuries brought on by the issue.

The rear wiring harness will be examined by dealers. The harness will be changed if the protective tape becomes compromised.

Dealers will install a safety tie strap and tape wrap if the tape isn’t worn. Owners will be informed in writing starting on September 11th. The toll-free number for Ford customer support is (866) 436-7332.
