Amiram Levin, a former IDF commander who has drawn controversy repeatedly by equating Israel with Nazi Germany, asserted in a recent statement that Israel’s rule over Judea and Samaria is comparable to the discriminatory practices of the Third Reich.
Levin voiced concern that if the coalition is successful in enacting its judicial changes, soldiers won’t be motivated to defend the nation. Amiram Levin, who oversaw the elite Sayeret Matkal unit and was a former deputy director of the Mossad spy agency, claimed on Kan radio on Sunday morning that Israel’s military is “rotten to its core” due to the country’s continued presence in the region.
The military is not only suffering harm to its readiness due to reservists’ threats and refusals to serve amid the government’s judicial overhaul,
According to Levin, it “stands to the side, looks at the rioting settlers, and starts to be a partner in war crimes.
It’s ten times worse than the issue of [military] readiness, and I’ll be honest: I’m not mad at the Palestinians; I’m mad with ourselves. From the inside out, we are destroying ourselves.
Levin is repeating the views of Yair Golan, the leader of the Meretz party, but is seen as a more normal citizen because he was chosen by Netanyahu to be the deputy director of the Mossad.
The interviewer questioned Levin over his agreement with Golan’s 2016 address, in which he said that Israel’s procedures were “similar to some in Europe in the years leading up to the Cold War.”
Levin replied, “We find it hard to say it, but that’s the truth. “Look around Hebron, look at the streets—the streets that Arabs can’t use, only Jews can use—that’s exactly what happened in countries like that.”
When questioned about whether he noticed any particular parallels to Nazi Germany, Levin responded, “Of course. The truth hurts and isn’t pleasant, but it is what it is. Even though it will be difficult, it is better to deal with it than to ignore it.
Levin also slammed Benjamin Netanyahu for appointing “draft dodger” cabinet members like Itamar Ben Gvir, the minister of national security, who was rejected by the IDF for conscription due to his extremist beliefs.
Referring to hardline settlement activists, he claimed that “a messianic group of criminals, former ‘hilltop youth,’ people who don’t even know what democracy is,” are taking advantage of the prime minister.
