Former US president Donald Trump is thinking about traveling to the US Capitol early next week as House Republicans discuss who should be the new speaker, according to two GOP members and two Trump friends.
One Republican legislator who broached the idea with a member of Trump’s inner circle this morning said that the former president, who hasn’t been on Capitol grounds since before the riot on January 6, is considering coming here in an effort to “unify the party.”
Trump officially stated yesterday that his emphasis is on retaking the White House, and the two Republican legislators said they don’t think he’s truly interested in the role, despite some of his allies suggesting the former president should serve as the next speaker.
