This afternoon, a 16-year-old bochur was exiting his 36th Street yeshiva when two teens with a stun gun and brass knuckles attempted to rob him. A woman, who witnessed the attack and heard the cry for help, immediately called Shomrim. The perpetrators took off in a minivan, but quick-acting Shomrim members apprehended the would-be criminals who were arrested a few blocks from the yeshiva.
This is the sixth arrest Shomrim members have assisted with during the last 24 hours. Taking the subway or walking alone, even in the daytime, has recently become even more dangerous in New York, especially for the obviously Orthodox.
District authorities and Shomrim members beseech the community always to be aware of their surroundings.
