On Sunday, a funeral was held for the three Israeli soldiers slain by an Egyptian policeman near the border over the weekend.

While guarding an observation post, Sgt. Lia Ben-Nun, 19, and Staff Sgt. Uri Iluz, 20, was shot and killed overnight on Friday—staff Sgt. Ohad Dahan, 20, was slain in Israeli territory during the ensuing search during a gunfight with the terrorist, who was also fatally shot.

The Bardelas (Cheetah) Battalion, a mixed-gender infantry unit that is a component of the Paran Brigade, was where the three victims served.

Ben-Nun was buried at her hometown of Rishon Leztion’s military cemetery.

“Lia, you were characterized by an endless giving that burned in you,” said Lt.-Col. At the service, Ivan Kuhn stated.

Kuhn said, “You were social and spread light, a warrior of excellent character, and your image and legacy will be with us forever.

Lia’s sister Ofir remarked at the funeral, “She was stunning both inside and out, a giant ray of light, full of the joy of life. There was not a single person who didn’t love her.

The military cemetery in Tzfat served as the location of Iluz’s funeral.

“You cheerfully completed each assignment. The importance of camaraderie always guides you. Without having to use words, you could read everyone else’s hearts. Lt. Col. Aviad Gedasi, the deputy commander of the Paran Brigade, praised how you brought people together out of love for one another.

The brigade is in charge of guarding and protecting the Egyptian border.

Ron, a close friend of Iluz, described him as “a point of light for all of us.”

The funeral for Dahan was held in Ofakim’s military cemetery.

“Ohad, you were dependable in all of your duties and served as an example and a role model for each soldier in the brigade.

Always smiling, nice looking, and handsome. You excelled at all you did, were up to any challenge, and sought out contact with the opposition. Col. Ido Saad, commander of the Paran Brigade, noted that in whatever you did, you inspired others around you to behave in a way consistent with your personality and upbringing—love of the land and commitment to its people.

During Ben-Nun’s funeral, her family shouted in tears, “We want answers.”

Maj. Gen. Nimrod Aloni was chosen on Sunday by Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi, chief of staff of the Israel Defense Forces, to oversee the inquiry into the “systemic failures” that resulted in the deaths of the soldiers.

The IDF Southern Command’s Maj. Gen. Eliezer Toledano and the 80th Division’s Brig. Gen. Itzik Cohen will examine how the soldiers behaved during the attack across the border. The 80th Division is where the Paran Brigade is located.

On Saturday, Benjamin Netanyahu, the prime minister, stated that the fatal incident would be “fully investigated.”
