This week, the Guatemala government has named another road in the city of La Gomera to Jerusalem Street, the capital of Israel.

Sources said the street inauguration personally attended by Israeli ambassador Matanya Cohen is the 27th street in Guatemala named after the capital of Israel for the past two years.

The city named the street Jerusalem to show its deep friendship with Jerusalem.

In 2018, former President Jimmy Morales recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and relocated its embassy there.

The country then began to name streets and parks domestically after the city.

“On June 2018, a month after the embassy was relocated to Jerusalem, the first city joined the initiative. Since then, other cities, including Guatemala City—the only capital in the world with a street name ‘Jerusalem, capital of Israel’—joined in,” Cohen said.

Cohen is hopeful 34 cities will join the initiative in naming some streets to Jerusalem.
