Making unjustified and unnecessarily splashy announcements has become NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio’s favorite pastime, but is proving to get on the nerves of New Yorkers big time.

The latest set of irrational announcements came from de Blasio on Monday, where he expanded the vaccine mandate to the entire private sector, affecting 184,000 businesses. With a deadline for the above mandate set for December 27th, the Mayor also notified that vaccine proof for indoor dining, fitness and entertainment will be required for children ages 5 to 11.

Apart from this, the current rule will also expand to require two vaccine doses instead of proof of only one as far as people age 12 and older are concerned, the mayor said. The requirement for kids to have a vaccination certificate will begin on December 14 and will consider even those with just one shot.

Announcing his new mandates on MSNBC, de Blasio said, “We’ve got Omicron as a new factor. We’ve got the colder weather which is going to really create additional challenges with the Delta variant, we’ve got holiday gatherings. We in New York City have decided to use a preemptive strike to really do something bold to stop the further growth of COVID and the dangers it’s causing to all of us.”
