After a seemingly long wait that has been blamed on the coronavirus pandemic, Apple has finally dropped its much-awaited iPhone 12 range in its ‘Hi, Speed’ event, streamed live from Apple Park, California just a few minutes back. To know what went down at the event, with details on all the big announcements that have finally been made, read on as we give you the play by play!
The Homepod Mini
Starting with home appliances, Apple introduced the compact, mesh-designed HomePod mini, coupled with an amazing sound and intelligent assistance. Whilst emphasizing the fact that privacy and security have been put at the forefront, the HomePod features custom-designed acoustic elements to limit distortion, better bass response, and a consistent 360 degree sound experience.
The HomePod mini can recognize when iPhone’s are in proximity to the device and the device’s Siri sports a deep-integration into iPhone. The radio-enabled device will feature iTunes and is slated to welcome Amazon music as well.
HomePod Mini comes with an intercom feature that not only connects two HomePod Minis but also with iPhones, Apple Watches, and AirPods. Standing at $99, the device can be ordered from November 6th and will ship from November 16th.
Verizon Partners With Apple For 5G Ultrawide Band
Partnering with carier Verizon, Tim Cook began by saying, Tim Cook says, “Today is a new era for iPhone. We’re bringing 5G to iPhone. We’re excited 5G will bring a new level of performance for downloads and upload higher quality video streaming, more responsive gaming. Real-time interactivity and so much more 5G networks are more advanced with lower network congestion, so you can get higher network speeds even in densely populated areas. And 5G even helps protect your privacy and security since you won’t need to connect to unknown unsecured public Wi-Fi.”
The iPhone 12 Arrives
The first of the lot, the Apple iPhone 12 comes with a 6.1-inch OLED display and it features an aluminum chassis. The phone comes in four color variants including white, red, blue, and green. It features Corning’s Ceramic Shield cover on the top of the display and has a display notch and it has Dolby Vision, along with an HDR 10 for audio. The iPhone 12 offers 4 times better drop performance and features Apple’s fastest ever A14 Bionic Chip, which will be better able to support powerful games, including ‘League of Legends’.
The phone features a 12 MP dual camera, with an ultra-wide and wide lens sporting a wider aperture. Sporting a 27% improvement in low-light performance, and HDR 3, the night mode will be made available, both on the front and back cameras. The camera’s on this new iPhone will also support the highest quality videos and a night-mode time lapse.
The iPhone12 will start at $799.
MagSafe for iPhone
Apple has just announced MagSafe for iPhone which promises to improve the wireless charging experience on the iPhone 12 but this technique works only for the all-new iPhone 12. This device supports up to 15W wireless charging and can snap on to the back of iPhones for better alignment of the charger. Apple is also launching a series of MagSafe accessories to improve the wireless charging experience, with one of these that lets you charge both your iPhone and Apple Watch using the same charger.
The iPhone 12 Mini
Priced at $699, the iPhone 12 Mini sports the exact same features as the iPhone 12, but is smaller, thinner, and lighter. Tagged as the ‘Smallest 5G phone in the world’ the model will also sport an A14 Bionic chip which features 11.8 billion transistors for increased efficiency, has a 6-core CPU, a 4-core GPU, a 16-core Neural Engine with 11 trillion operations per second, and significant Machine Learning capabilities.
The iPhone Pro and Pro Max
With a 6. 1-inch display, durable surgical-grade stainless steel band, a precision-built glass backplate. and a ceramic shield that assures a stronger body, the iPhone 12 Pro, and the iPhone Pro Max come with a 12MP telephoto lens, a 12MP wide-angle lens, and a 12MP wide-angle lens. The iPhone 12 Pro Max will feature a better camera set with a telephoto camera that has a 65mm focal length that allows you 2.5x optical zoom and a zoom range of 5x. There’s an improved ultra-wide-angle camera as well. New image sensors allow for improvement in low-light photography and video stabilization.
The Apple iPhone 12 Pro will come in silver, graphite, gold, and blue finishes.
The iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max will be getting support for RAW format images, via a format called Apple Pro RAW, which Apple says will be supported on popular image editing apps too. Users can also take advantage of ProVideo, which makes iPhone 12 the first camera to record in Dolby Vision HDR at 4K resolution and 60 frames per second.
Apple also claimed that the iPhone 12 Pro and the iPhone 12 Pro Max will come with LiDAR sensors. This will improve the phone’s AR capabilities and improve focus captured in low light conditions both in images and videos. It also improves depth in low-light images.
The Phone 12 Pro is priced at $US999 and the iPhone Pro Max US$1099. Available for pre-order this Friday onwards, the phones will start shipping on 23rd October, while Pro Max and 12 mini shipments will be available from 13th November.
