New York governor Kathy Hochul is expected to allow the mask mandate to expire on Thursday as the COVID cases in the estate continue their downward trend.
On Tuesday, Hochul revealed the state reported its lowest weeklong COVID case rate since Nov. 30 and its smallest number of patients in intensive care since Dec. 20.
While the cases are getting low, the number of deaths remains alarming as 71 more were added to the COVID death toll.
Sources said Hochul is set to announce her decision on the mask mandate on Wednesday.
Hochul earlier issued the mask mandate two months back due to the rising cases of Omicron in NY during Christmas.
The mask mandate affects all indoor businesses that lack proof-of-vaccine requirements.
