For Sgt. Maksym Molchanov’s funeral, hundreds gathered on Tuesday at the Kiryat Shaul Military Cemetery in Tel Aviv. Molchanov was an Israeli Defense Forces member who was killed by a Palestinian terrorist last week near Modi’in.
The 20-year-old Molchanov left Kharkiv, in the east of Ukraine, in 2017. On Monday night, his parents took a flight from the troubled nation in Europe to Israel.
Given the prohibition on men leaving Ukraine in the midst of the Russian invasion, the Foreign Ministry reportedly assisted in facilitating the bereaved father’s travel.
Three soldiers and six other people were hurt on August 31 at the Maccabim Crossing along Route 443 when a Palestinian terrorist rammed into them with a truck. According to the Israel Police, the terrorist ran away from the scene but was found and “neutralized” about 10 kilometers (6 miles) away at the Hashmonaim Crossing.
The IDF provided a description of the terrorist’s truck to the Hashmonaim checkpoint security personnel, who then opened fire on the vehicle after recognizing the attacker, according to the Defense Ministry.
He was later recognized as Daoud Abdel Razeq Fayez, a Palestinian from the nearby Palestinian village of Deir Ammar.
