The information showed that the IDF employs over 3000 soldiers with chareidi backgrounds.

There were 1,222 conscripts in 2019, 1,193 in 2020, and 1,185 in 2021.

According to army records, most conscripts are between 18 and 21; hundreds change their religious affiliation while serving.

The IDF’s head of human resources, Brigadier-General Amir Vadmani, told the Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee that 63,000 chareidim between 18 and 26 states that they are Toratu Umanuto, and the army does not inquire as to whether they are enrolled in yeshivas.

Despite limits on international travel, 900 students had their status removed due to traveling overseas. Among them, only 10% had joined the IDF. The IDF plans to make more enlistment opportunities available that are appropriate for chareidim.

The proposed revision to the law would allow chareidim to receive an exemption starting at 21 rather than the present age of 26. According to the IDF, the exemption age should not exceed 23.
