Following news that Iran and the West would negotiate a nuclear deal, a top Israeli source addressed the worries of the diplomatic and security echelons.
The insider told Israel Hayom that Iran is aware that an Israeli assault will occur if it starts uranium enrichment at 90%.
The US and the West are aware that Israel’s red line is 90% enrichment, he continued.
At the outset of his tenure, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with the leaders of Germany, Italy, France, and Britain and explained that Israel would consider 90% enrichment to be unacceptable.
According to the Israeli source, there won’t be any deals with Iran despite the US making significant efforts to do so since Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has no interest in doing so.
Khamenei said that the nuclear program would continue to cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) but would not give in to the “exaggerated and false” demands of the agency.
However, after the source made his remarks, Khamenei spoke in favor of a limited agreement with the West, saying that “there is nothing wrong with agreements as long as they don’t touch our nuclear infrastructure.”
The “accusations that Iran wants nuclear weapons,” according to Khamenei, are false and go against their religious beliefs.
Israel, however, is sure that the Biden administration would settle for understandings rather than an agreement with Iran because it wants to avoid bringing the pact before Congress and facing criticism from the Republican Party.
Any agreement between the US and Iran is opposed by Israel, especially if it would permit the flow of untold billions of dollars into Iran, as was already the case last week.
