In the Old City on Saturday night, a 14-year-old Arab kid from Jerusalem’s Issawiya district was detained on suspicion of planning a stabbing attack. He was taken into custody while carrying a knife.
A security guard working in the Old City and police officers from the David precinct conducted the arrest after spotting a child who raised their suspicions.
When the police searched the youngster, they discovered the knife. Police detained the man and took him inside to question him.
On Sunday, he will be hauled to court for remand. Police are still looking into the event.
“This is another example of the professionalism of Jerusalem district police officers and Border Police officers working in the city in the ongoing struggle against terrorism,” Superintendent Doron Turgeman, the commander of the Jerusalem district, said in praising the police officers’ attentiveness.
The police officers’ alertness, prompt action, and pursuit enabled them to apprehend the suspect, who was preparing to launch an attack with a knife he was carrying, said Turgeman.
“There is no replacement for our police officers’ relentless efforts to stop the hostile terrorist activity and address any security hazard in the face of terrorist threats. For the security of the people of the State of Israel, Turgeman added, “We will continue to combat terrorism with all the instruments at our disposal and foil terrorist threats of any form.
