Instagram will now support the sharing of photos that have been captured and edited using iPhone 12’s ProRAW feature. The ProRaw photos can only be captured by the new iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max, and have some exceptional features that help users elevate photography.
The news for the support for ProRaw came from Instagram developer Tim Johnsen, who, on Twitter, said on Friday, “Instagram should be able to handle sharing ProRAW photos as of this morning, may take a bit to propagate out.” The developer further explained, according to a report by MacRumours, DNG format cannot be edited on Instagram. The report suggests that the ProRaw file is converted into JPG.

On iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max with iOS 14.3 or later, one can take photos in Apple ProRAW, which gives greater creative control when editing photos. ProRAW combines the editing flexibility of RAW with Apple’s computational photography tools like Smart HDR and deep Fusion for the first time. The new feature allows users better control over noise reduction, sharpening, and even white balance.ProRAW can be used with all of the rear cameras on the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max and it also works in Night Mode. It also supports AirPods Max over-ear headphones which will start shipping soon.
Introduced as part of the iOS 14.3 update, along with ProRaw images, Apple has also rolled out features including a new option to capture videos at 25 frames per second. The update also provides support to mirror the front-facing camera for pictures on the iPhone SE, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X. The update also brings support for the newly launched AirPods Max, has introduced Apple Fitness+, and also brings the Home Screen shortcuts feature.

Now that the files can be shared, Instagram will also be compressing the images as sizes of ProRaw images will be going up as high as 25MB. Earlier, the images captured in ProRaw format had to be edited outside of Instagram, and then the user was able to share it on the social network.
