According to Reuters and the semi-official Mehr News Agency of Iran, four Iranians were given the death penalty on Wednesday for allegedly working with Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency.
The report stated that those accused had received punishment “for the crime of assisting with the intelligence agencies of the Zionist authority and for kidnapping.”
It continued, “This network of thugs was robbing and destroying private and public property, kidnapping people, and collecting false confessions under the direction of the Zionist intelligence service.
According to Reuters, Tehran claimed in October that it had detained ten people allegedly conspiring with Israel.
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the supreme leader of Iran, charged that Israel and the United States were behind the nationwide protests last month.
Khamenei asserted that the unrest, which was prompted by the death on September 16 of Mahsa Amini, 22, while in the care of Iran’s morality police, was not being brought on by “common Iranians” but rather by the security forces of the regime, who are suppressing the protests.
According to rights organizations, the Basij security troops and Iranian police have killed over 400 Iranians while detaining thousands more.
