The foreign minister of Iran asserts that Hamas is prepared to free kidnapped Israeli civilians and stresses that the international community must assume responsibility for the release of the 6,000 Palestinian detainees held in Israel.
Hossein Amirabdollahian spoke at a U.N. emergency meeting. On Thursday, Iran told the General Assembly that it “stands ready to play its part in this very important humanitarian endeavor, along with Qatar and Turkey.” Of the more than 200 people currently held captive, Iran is a major supporter of Hamas, and Qatar has already played a significant role in the release of four Israeli civilians.
Amirabdollahian charged that the US was intimately involved in the Israeli-Hamas conflict and what he termed a “genocide” of the Palestinian people.
A stern warning was also made by him “against the uncontrollable consequences of the White House’s unlimited financial, military, and operational support to the Tel Aviv regime.” Iran’s top diplomat began his speech in English by saying, “I say frankly to the American statesmen, who are now managing the genocide in Palestine, that we do not welcome the expansion of the war in the region.”
Amirabdollahian stated, “But I warn; if the genocide in Gaza continues, they will not be spared from this fire.”
