
Israel accused Iran on Monday of masterminding a terrorist attack on Israelis in Cyprus after an armed individual had been arrested.
Matan Sidi, spokesman for Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said the foiled terrorist attempt is the handiwork of Iran, Cypriot police chief Stelios Papatheodorou revealed to reporters that a person was arrested possessing a pistol and cartridges.
Papatheodorou added the arrest of the person is a sensitive case and they are still conducting a deeper investigation on the matter.
βIt is a sensitive case, which is why a remand request was held behind closed doors,β Papatheodorou said.
The Cyprus media said that the suspect stayed on the island for about 20 days before his arrest.
While on the island, the suspect also rented two cars in succession.
The reports also said that the suspect used an electric scooter to travel frequently to the north side of the island via a pedestrian crossing.
At the moment, the Iranian Embassy in Nicosia has yet to issue its side on the matter.
