Israeli Army Admits to the Heartbreaking Shooting Death of a Palestinian Girl

The Israeli military revealed on Monday that one of its soldiers fatally shot a young Palestinian girl while conducting an operation in the West Bank but claimed that she was mistakenly wounded by bullets meant for nearby shooters.

The military has conducted daily arrest operations in the West Bank for almost nine months and rarely admits to making mistakes.

Israel’s prime minister lamented the girl’s death and vowed that the area’s activities would continue.

According to Palestinian authorities, Jenin, a city in the north, witnessed the nocturnal murder of 16-year-old Jana Zakaran.

According to the official Palestinian news agency Wafa, her family spent an hour looking for her before discovering her dead on the roof of their house after Israeli troops left the area.

The girl “was injured by inadvertent fire aimed at armed militants” on a neighboring rooftop,” the Israeli military said in a statement after conducting an initial investigation.

According to the report, the girl who was slain had been on the roof of a house close to the shooters.

According to the report, local militants started firing and throwing firebombs at the soldiers as the military opened fire.

While stating that they “regret any harm to uninvolved civilians,” the army declared that it would continue with its operations notwithstanding this statement.

In a statement, Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid expressed grief over the girl’s passing and offered his condolences to her family.

Additionally, he showed his support for Israel’s soldiers and declared that Israel would continue its operations in the West Bank while doing everything in its power to prevent the deaths of civilians.

The militant stronghold of Jenin is well-known.

The army has always been active in the region, and it intensified its operations last spring in response to a string of deadly attacks inside Israel, some of which were carried out by militants from Jenin.

In the same Jenin refugee camp where Shireen Abu Akleh, an Al Jazeera journalist, was killed in May of last year, Zakaran was also killed.
