The Israel Police Counterterrorism Unit is now intensifying its efforts to arrest the two remaining prisoners that escaped from Gilboa prison last September 6.
The police were able to capture four of the six fugitives in a successful operation over the weekend.
The police re-captured Zakaria Zubeidi and Mahmoud Ardah at a parking lot in the village of Umm el-Ghanam early on Saturday, hours after Yakoub Mohammed Qadri and Mohammed Ardah were located in Nazareth on Friday night.
The police said Zubeidi and Ardah were arrested while hiding under a trailer truck.
The police revealed the remaining fugitives are identified as Munadil Nafayat and Iham Kahamji.
Arik Yaacov, the service’s northern commander, hinted the escapees appeared to have opened a hole from their cell toilet floor to access passages formed by the prison’s construction.
Yaacov said the facility, about 4 km (2 miles) from the boundary with the occupied West Bank, is one of the highest-security jails in Israel and houses Palestinians convicted or suspected of anti-Israeli activities, including deadly attacks.
A Palestinian prisoners organization said four of the men were serving life sentences.
