Israel’s energy minister, Israel Katz, is pushing for the creation of a special court to try Nazis and their allies under the country’s current legal system. The objective of this hypothetical court would be to deliver justice to terrorists who were discovered alive following Hamas’s assault on southern Israel on October 7.
Potentially, the proposed bill would give Israel the power to execute people who are in its possession.
Israeli law currently restricts the application of the death penalty to limited instances, such as those involving the Nazi government and some court martial trials for treason.
In a letter to Justice Minister Yariv Levin, Minister Katz makes the point that it is not excessive to consider using a statute originally intended for Nazis against the terrorists responsible for these recent acts in order to deal with these cases right away.
