Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced a postponement in his judicial reform plan on Monday, saying he needed more time to try to agree with his political rivals on the divisive measure.
Large-scale protests against the idea lasted for two days before Netanyahu announced it.
In a speech broadcast nationwide, Netanyahu declared, “I, as prime minister, am taking a timeout for conversation while there is a possibility to avoid civil conflict through negotiation.
He said he was determined to pass judicial reform but called for “an endeavor to seek wide consensus,” striking a more conciliatory tone.
