The White House announced on Tuesday that President Joe Biden has nominated former Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew for the position of next American ambassador to Israel.
Lew would succeed Ambassador Tom Nides, who left the position in July. During the Obama administration, Lew served as both the White House chief of staff and the director of the Office of Management and Budget. During the Clinton administration, Lew also held the position of director of OMB.
At the moment, Lew holds the positions of managing partner at the private equity firm Lindsay Goldberg and visiting professor at Columbia University in New York.
He currently holds the positions of co-president of the board of the National Library of Israel USA, chairman of the board of the National Committee on United States-China Relations, and member of the Council on Foreign Relations. Lew has also held the positions of managing director and chief operating officer for two business divisions of Citigroup.
He held the positions of executive vice president, chief operating officer, and professor of public administration at NYU’s Wagner Graduate School of Public Service.
