Jeff Bezos Will Give Away Most Of His Fortune

By 11/14/2022 2:24 PMNo CommentsBy YidInfo Staff

Jeff Bezos, the creator of Amazon, declared that the bulk of his money will be donated while he is still alive.

He is the most recent billionaire to make such a commitment.

Bezos announced the news in a joint CNN interview with his girlfriend Lauren Sanchez, whose “real-time” net worth Forbes magazine pegs at about $124.1 billion.

The billionaire said the pair were developing the “capacity” to do it but did not say how or to whom he would distribute the funds.

“The hard part is figuring out how to do it in a levered way,” Bezos said during the interview.

“It’s not easy. Building Amazon was not easy. It took a lot of hard work and brilliant teammates. And I’m finding – and Lauren’s – that philanthropy is very similar. It’s not easy. It’s hard,” Bezos added.

Bezos has previously come under fire for refusing to sign the Giving Pledge, a movement started by Warren Buffet, Bill Gates, and Melinda French Gates to persuade billionaires to give the majority of their money away to charity.

The billionaire left his position as CEO of Amazon last year to focus more on philanthropy and other endeavors.

As part of his Bezos Earth Fund project, he promised to donate $10 billion to the battle against climate change.

The Chronicle of Philanthropy also reports that he donated $510.7 million to NGOs last year.

On Saturday, Bezos and Sanchez also revealed a $100 million contribution without conditions for singer Dolly Parton, who has received plaudits for her charitable work in developing the Moderna vaccine for COVID-19.

Bezos provided a comparable award to José Andrés, a chef.
