New York governor Kathy Hochul admitted that instead of issuing her mask or vax mandate she should have done a “targeted” approach to deal with the soaring Omicron cases in the Big Apple.
Hochul said if she only looked at the health data in NYC which shows its success in battling COVID-19 she should not have issued her order for the mandatory use of face masks in all public places.
“Well, this is not — there’s very little difference between what we’re doing and what New York City has already done,” Hochul said.
“So, if New York City had been — had not had taken their own steps, then we would have absolutely had that surgical approach,” Hochul added.
She said while her mask mandate is already redundant, it still makes sense since what outgoing New York mayor Bill de Blasio issued is only for indoor and not outside which is what she issued.
On the reports of opposition to her mask mandate from local governments across the state, Hochul said she still believes the majority of officials in NY support her latest mask or vax mandate.
