A ticket purchased in Maine matched the winning numbers for the lottery’s estimated $1.35 billion grand prize, giving the state its first Mega Millions jackpot and helping someone escape the bad luck of Friday the 13th.

Late Friday night’s drawing yielded excellent numbers: 30, 43, 45, 46, 61, and gold Mega Ball 14.

According to the Maine State Lottery, the winning ticket was purchased at Hometown Gas & Grill in Lebanon, Maine. The town of roughly 6,500 people in southern Maine borders New Hampshire.

According to Fred Cotreau, the proprietor, there’s quite a buzz at our small-town gas station this morning. He checked first to see if he had purchased the winning ticket, which he hadn’t.

Cotreau hoped that one of the locals or a regular customer would win. It’s fantastic that it was sold, but it’s even more impressive if there was just one winner, and I’m hoping it was someone from the area.

The unknown winner beat daunting odds of 1 in 302.6 million, which resulted in three months of lotteries without a jackpot claim.

Pat McDonald, the director of the Ohio lottery and the head of the Mega Millions Consortium, issued a statement early on Saturday saying, “Congratulations to the Maine State Lottery, which has won its first-ever Mega Millions jackpot.

The prize was the second-largest jackpot in Mega Millions history and the fourth $1 billion jackpot in the game’s history.

In October 2018, a single ticket holder in South Carolina scooped the $1.53 billion top Mega Millions prize.

The seventh time a grand prize winner on Friday the 13th, a day superstitiously thought unlucky, occurred in Friday’s successful drawing.

The winner would need to take the money in an annuity with monthly payments spread over 29 years to receive the $1.35 billion.

Most jackpot winners preferred the less expensive but faster cash option, which was predicted to be worth $724.6 million for Friday night’s drawing.

There was no jackpot winner in 25 consecutive drawings until Friday night.

On Friday, more than 7 million winning tickets were distributed across nine prize tiers. In addition to Maine’s jackpot, 14 tickets matched five white balls to win the $1 million second-tier prize.

According to Mega Millions, one ticket each was sold in Florida, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Missouri, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Texas, and New York. Two tickets each were sold in California and New York.

Along with Washington, D.C., and the United States, Mega Millions is played in 45 states. Caribbean islands.
