
Mayors from around the Sunshine State gathered on Wednesday to commemorate the completion of the final section of a higher-speed rail line running from South Florida to the state’s center.
A 170-mile train route now connects Miami and Orlando as Brightline prepares to operate 16 daily round trips between the two cities later this year.
The mayors of Miami, Aventura, Boca Raton, West Palm Beach, and Orlando gathered on Wednesday at a station at Orlando International Airport to commemorate the event. Every city is situated along the route.
A year after operations between its Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and West Palm Beach stations in South Florida began, Brightline’s Orlando extension broke ground in June 2019.
“This is a fantastic time for our neighborhood. We have followed the construction process in anticipation of the day when trains will pass by us alongside the roadway. Orlando is located in Orange County, represented by Mayor Jerry Demings.
