Six chareidi worshippers in the Ripponlea district of Melbourne, Australia were directed to pay a fine of $5452 each for violating COVID-19 restrictions of wearing masks and the prohibition of any large gatherings.
Sources said the six were part of 100 worshippers at the Adas Yisrael synagogue that gathered to celebrate Rosh Hashana in violation of the city’s COVID-19 restrictions.
Aside from violating the COVID-19 restrictions some of the worshippers also clashed with the police who were only trying to impose the law on COVID-19.
The local Jewish community leaders already condemned the behavior of the Ripponlea congregants and stressed that Rosh Hashana should be celebrated in people’s homes in accordance with COVID-19 restrictions.
With the huge number of worshippers who broke the COVID-19 restrictions, the local police are set to impose more fines against them.
