Authorities said a shipping container containing gold and other valuables valued at over $20 million Canadian dollars (14.8 million US dollars) was taken from Toronto’s Pearson International Airport on Thursday.
A “high value” container was removed from a holding area facility after being unloaded from an aircraft, according to Peel Regional Police Inspector Stephen Duivesteyn on Monday night.
According to “usual procedure,” the airplane was emptied, and the cargo was moved to a storage facility. “The shipment in the container was quite valuable. Gold was present, but it wasn’t the only metal in it.
Other things with monetary value were also inside.
Police were notified of the missing goods shortly after.
The police did not give more information.
Our detectives are looking at all possibilities as we are just three days in, Duivesteyn stated.
There have been no arrests made.
