MK Yaakov Asher ‘Proves” From Labor Leader Michaeli Why Anti-Racism Law Should Include Charedim

Mk. Yaakov Asher explained why the Knesset should adopt his proposed measure to create a specific section outlawing racism towards chareidim in a video that was made public by the Knesset.

According to the explanatory notes of Asher’s proposal, which passed its preliminary reading in the Knesset last week, “Recently we have been witnessing an increasing problem of incitement to hatred toward the Charedi people.

The circumstances under which incitement is carried out by elected officials with the intention of separating the populace and gaining political advantage while damaging an entire community and the unity of the populace are particularly serious.

Other effects of this injury include the entrenchment of prejudice towards the Charedi people in society.

Asher responded by saying that “a group targeted because of their garb, long peyos, and beards can suffer from racism.”

Asher depicted Labor leader Merav Michaeli as using racist rhetoric against the chareidi community as she lashed out at the chareidim, saying: “All the wearers of kippot, all the rabbis, all the long-beards, all the long coats, all those that are holy in their eyes.”
