New York Gov. Kathy Hochul has chosen Rep. Antonio Delgado as her new lieutenant governor.
According to reports, Delgado got unanimous support Tuesday morning from the seven-member committee to fill vacancies tasked with naming a substitute for Benjamin on the June 28 primary ballot.
“Congressman Delgado has a proven track record of delivering results for working families, from expanding access to affordable health care, delivering relief for small businesses, and improving public safety in our communities,” Hochul said in a statement.
“I know he will work tirelessly on behalf of every New Yorker.,” Hochul added.
Sources said a Harvard Law grad and Rhodes scholar, Delgado defeated one-term Republican Rep. John Faso in 2018 and won reelection to the 19th Congressional district two years ago. The Hudson Valley district covers much of the Catskills and rural areas surrounding the Capital Region.
“I was born and raised in New York on the values of hard work, discipline, and passion for service and am incredibly proud to have the opportunity to represent this great state and get things done for New Yorkers,” Delgado said.
