Binyamin Netanyahu, the chosen prime minister, is still attempting to form a coalition. According to a Walla News report, he assured the Hareidi parties Shas and UTJ that his administration would ensure that no student is ever imprisoned for studying the Torah.

The incoming administration intends to advance a fundamental statute making yeshiva education a basic legal principle.

The High Court of Justice will face significant challenges in trying to invalidate the rule that exempts Torah students from IDF duty.

Netanyahu reportedly said to the heads of the parties above: “In the Jewish state, no one will go to prison for learning Torah.”

As of Thursday morning, the Ultra-Orthodox, Shas, and UTJ are pleased with the development in the coalition negotiations and nearing an agreement with Netanyahu toward creating a new government.
