Due to earlier incidents of Shabbat violation during check-in, El Al, recently acquired by chareidi investor Kenny Rosenberg, is tightening its compliance policy and will cancel numerous flights from London this summer.
Channel 12 News Sunday reported that thousands of travelers have already purchased tickets for the canceled flights.
According to the article, the trip that will be impacted is flight LY318, which departs every Saturday night from London for Israel.
The check-in had previously begun before Shabbat ended throughout the summer.
The decision to forbid check-in during Shabbat has been made, so planes planned to depart on Saturday night during the summer will be canceled.
El Al representatives told Channel 12 News that Rosenberg is personally leading the initiative.
The choice of changing their travel date to Friday or receiving a refund will be presented to the thousands of customers who are anticipated to be impacted by the decision.
El Al acknowledged the rumors, claiming that “we have had to modify the flight itinerary due to the change to summer time and departure restrictions from Heathrow airport. We regret that this move has made our clients uncomfortable.
