A fourth person who was hurt in the terrorist incident in Elad on July 4th has passed away. Shimon Ma’atauf, a 75-year-old security guard at the entrance to the park in Elad where the terrorists carried out their attack, passed away on Thursday morning at Ichilov hospital after a nine-month battle with the terrible injuries he acquired during the vicious attack.
His wife, six children, and 13 grandchildren are still living.
When Ma’atuf heard screaming, he attempted to confront the attackers and even managed to fire one round when one of the terrorists struck him in the head with an ax, gravely injuring him.
His health had declined over the previous three months, and he was moved to Ichilov Hospital, where he passed away. He’ll be buried there in Moshav Bareket.
Yonatan Havakuk, a father of five, Boaz Gol, an Elad native in his 40s and also a father of five, and Oren Ben Yiftach, a father of six from the city of Lod, were the other three victims who perished in the attack. Before they killed him, Ben Yiftach unknowingly gave the terrorists a ride.
After a three-day manhunt, the terrorists were apprehended; they were discovered hiding in bushes at a nearby quarry.
The attackers, Sabhi Imad Sabhi Abu Shakir, 20, and Assad Yussef Assad Al-Rafa’i, 19, both of Jenin, had been in detention ever since and were recently charged.
