
In a letter made public on Tuesday following a medical assessment and consultation with neurologists, the Capitol physician stated that there is “no evidence” that Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell’s health episodes are strokes or seizures.
As the Senate returns from an extended summer recess and concerns grow regarding the long-serving Republican leader’s health, McConnell’s office made the attending physician’s letter public.
The 81-year-old experienced his second such episode in a month last week during a press conference in Kentucky, when he became unable to respond to a question.
The attending Capitol doctor, Brian P. Monohan, wrote, “There is no evidence that you have a seizure disorder or that you had a stroke, TIA, or movement disorder such as Parkinson’s disease.
It follows McConnell’s health episodes after sustaining a concussion in a fall earlier this year.
The doctor said the assessments involved several medical evaluations, including brain MRI imaging and “consultations with several neurologists for a comprehensive neurology assessment.
As you continue to recover from your fall in March 2023, there are no recommended changes to your treatment protocols.
