In addition to a recent flurry of weapons tests, South Korea’s military claims to have seen North Korea launch at least one ballistic missile toward the ocean off its eastern coast.
This comes as the United States intensifies military drills with the South to counter the North’s growing threat.
The Joint Chiefs of Staff in Seoul did not immediately disclose the missile’s flight path or landing location on Monday.
This missile launch marked the North’s ninth this month as it ramps up its military displays in retaliation for U.S.-South Korea military drills.
The allies wrapped up an 11-day exercise last week that included the most extensive field training in years, but North Korea is likely to step up its testing activity as the US is reportedly planning to send an aircraft carrier shortly for yet another round of joint exercises with the South.
