
According to authorities, a Guyana-born New York City police officer on holiday in his native country died in swiftly moving waters in a jungle and mountainous area close to the Brazilian border.
Gladstone Hayne, 43, was washed away on Sunday while swimming at the Orinduik Falls in the densely forested Potaro Region with his children’s mother, according to police.
The body of Hayne was found by a search party on Wednesday morning, according to police spokesman Mark Ramotar, who could not provide any further information.
According to sources, Hayne was a 17-year member of the New York City police department and the son of a retired Guyana police officer.
