New York City Mayor Eric Adams is tapping technology as one of the ways to curb the rising crimes in the Big Apple.
In a drone presentation event at the high-end Williamsburg Hotel, Adams revealed he is very interested in using NYPD’s fleet of drones to help the police force crackdown on crimes.
Sources said that NYPD has t 14 drones at $480,000.
NYPD usually uses drones to surveil “large-scale events,” including street protests.
Adams wants to expand the use of the NYPD drones by tapping them against crimes.
Albert Fox Cahn of the Surveillance Technology Oversight Project to 1010 WINS is not happy with the idea of Adams.
“Drones aren’t just creepy, they’re a waste of money,” Cahn said.
“Mayor Adams’ promised us community policing and is giving us robocop. If City Hall insists on this mistake, Albany will need to outlaw police drones,” Cahn added.
