The price of street parking will soon increase for commuters and residents of New York City.
The city will start raising parking meter prices by 20% in October. Depending on the area, the increases will go into effect on different dates.
The Transportation Department asserts that the rise uses “demand-based” pricing to reduce traffic and make it simpler for vehicles to find parking spaces.
The more pessimistic viewpoint, though, is that the city is looking to make money because it is in need of funds.
