Some Russians living in New York have called on Russian President Vladimir Putin to stop his order to invade Ukraine.
On Saturday, some Russians living in Brighton Beach condemn the war and issued support to the people of Ukraine.
“Russian people have a moral duty to stand up and say something when Russia is doing something bad,” said a 40-year-old woman named Yevgenia after returning from a pro-Ukraine rally in Times Square.
“It’s so unprovoked and egregious and appalling. We’re very culturally close with Ukraine, but of course they are a distinct country at the same time,” Yevgenia added.
Yevgenia and another woman friend were holding a placard protesting the war being waged by Putin.
“It’s shocking,” the woman, who came to Brooklyn from Minsk as a 10-year-old said.
“I still can’t believe that this happened,” the woman added.
At the moment, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy vowed to “fight for as long as needed to liberate our country”.
